Enjoy a tour of Slaton’s beautifully restored Harvey House.   This historic Texas landmark serves as a Bed & Breakfast and Event Center.  Built in the 1920s, the Harvey House and its waitresses were held to high standards at a time when Harvey Houses were the only places where rail passengers could get a good meal.

Call ahead and reserve one of their 4 spacious rooms or book the event center for reunions, weddings, meetings, parties and more!  In-house event planning, floral, and catering are available.

While in Slaton, you must stop by the historic Slaton Bakery and sample some of their famous thumb print cookies, vanilla waters and more! Join the people from all over the country who make it point to stop by and sign the guest registry.  Located on the downtown square, and open Tuesday through Saturday from 6am to 6pm, the Slaton Bakery is one of the oldest and most respected bakeries in the State.  It has been in continuous operation since 1923.

Travel across the South Plains by train in this miniature re-creation of the tracks as they pass through the small towns of this area.  Much care has been given to the accuracy of the details, both of the trains and of the small towns. Still a work in progress, you will find Bob working there on Wednesdays and Saturdays and during the 5th Friday Slaton Event. Model railroaders and visitors alike will appreciate the quality and accuracy of this exhibit.

ara Waters, artist and retired Texas Tech Professor in Art, lives and works in this historic building on the southwest corner of the Slaton downtown square.  Open by appointment and during the 5th Friday Slaton event, the gallery serves as an inspiration to both her students and the local artists community.

Von Venhuizen, Texas Tech Associate Professor in Ceramics, opens his gallery at the 5th Friday Slaton Events. Von is an established artist in the area of ceramics and kiln building. He has been in over 35 invitational, juried national and international exhibitions since 2002. His work is a combination of molded and wheel thrown pieces referencing industrial items.

Built in 1929 as the most modern hospital in Lubbock county, Mercy Hospital became Mercy Retreat Center in 1980. Operated now as a retreat center for local church groups and a gathering place for events such as family reunions, weddings, and travelers. It retains the charm of the past in its guest rooms and event spaces. Call ahead for a tour or to book a reservation for an event or a short stay.

Located on the NE corner of the Slaton Municipal Airport,  the Texas Air Museum, Caprock Chapter, is open most Saturdays. Proud of their collection of antique aircraft, volunteers educate and delight with their stories from the past.  Hopefully you will be able to attend their bi-annual Air Show which brings thousands of people to watch these old planes in action, eat, and play in June of 2015.
